Friday May 4th, 2018 - Healthy Communities are Strong Communities

Healthy communities are strong communities.

Healthy communities are resilient communities.

And, healthy communities are productive communities.

Windlectric is committed to the communities in which we operate. That’s why our team recently made a $25,000 donation to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF), the joint fundraising arm of Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care.

Our entire team is proud to support their important work.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday March 6th, 2018 - Thank you for your support!

“When the roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind.”

This past week, when a powerful wind storm interrupted transportation to and from the Island, members of the Amherst Island community stepped up.

With both the barges and ferry out of service, approximately 50 people–Amherst Island Wind Project employees and contractors among them–found themselves stranded on the Island with little shelter from the elements.

Confronted by mother nature’s might, the Amherst Island community came together and displayed the very best of human nature. The Amherst Island Public School opened its doors and provided temporary shelter in the gymnasium. The local store, in Stella, and school administrators cooked meals for those in need. Island residents opened their doors and their homes to our team.

On behalf of Windlectric, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the support and kindness shown to those impacted by the disruption of ferry service.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Monday January 15th, 2018 - An Update on Island Deliveries

Hello,

I wanted to give you an update on the Wind Project to let you know that we are now delivering the wind turbine components to the site.

Unlike the preparatory work that took place earlier, it will be clear from this phase of work that we are moving actual pieces of the wind turbines. This means that during the next several months, you will begin to see the large blades and tower pieces make their way to the Island from the mainland.

These components have already started being delivered. First, they arrive at the Invista site, and then they are barged over to the Island. Once on the Island, they are first delivered to the staging area and then on to specific tower locations.

How will this impact Island residents?

As always, we will try to minimize the impact of this work. For the foreseeable future, though, this will present busier roads and potentially some delays as the turbine parts move from the staging area on Second Concession to their final destination.

On the Island, components will be delivered throughout the daytime hours. In some cases, residents may find that the road is temporarily closed until the truck carrying the component has moved through the area.

We do not expect the deliveries to take extended amounts of time. That being said, there will be some deliveries that will take longer because of turns in the road, inclines and other varying road conditions.

As always, we will diligently keep residents up to date via weekly maps posted on the site, our social media channels (see our Facebook page and Twitter feed), and updates recorded daily via our toll-free information line at 1-844-379-7740.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan

Friday December 15th, 2017 - Holiday Working Hours

Hello there,

With the holidays rapidly approaching (are you done your shopping yet?) I thought it would be a good time to touch base with our planned work schedule over the Holidays.

So you’re aware, and for your own planning purposes, there are no activities currently planned to take place during the Christmas break.

However, depending on project progress, Windlectric may elect to carry out limited work on December 27, 28, 29 and or 30th.

Finally, from the entire Amherst Island Wind Project team, please accept my warm wishes for a Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year.

Please contact me at Windlectric@amherstislandwindproject.com if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday December 8th, 2017 - Thinking Ahead to Winter

Hello there,

As we all know, winter weather can be unpredictable.

I wanted to take a moment to discuss potentially dangerous weather conditions that have the potential to threaten workers’ safety and wellbeing. In harsh winter weather, some of our workers may need local assistance, including temporary accommodation.

At the November 30 Community Liaison Council (CLC) meeting, a member suggested that we ask local Island residents for support for our work crews during severe weather.

We are seeking local volunteers to accommodate workers. We will be able to provide financial compensation in the event that worker(s) are sheltered overnight this winter.

If you are willing to volunteer to provide some short-term support for Island staff, we would love to hear back from you.  Please contact me at Windlectric@amherstislandwindproject.com and I will add your name to our list of volunteers.

Thank you for very much for your continued support for our workers in the Island and in the larger community.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday November 30th, 2017 - A Quick CLC Meeting Update

Hello there,

A couple of weeks ago, I informed you about the second Amherst Island Wind Project Community Liaison Committee (CLC) meeting scheduled for November 30th, and asked you to send in questions for the CLC to consider.

I wanted to take a moment to thank Island and local community residents for all the questions you submitted so far. We look forward to addressing them in the days and weeks ahead.

The purpose of the CLC is to facilitate two-way communications between Windlectric and members of the public with respect to the construction, installation, use, operation, maintenance and retirement of the project.

Please note that while the venue is open to the public for observation, this is a working meeting and participation is reserved for CLC members. We look forward to seeing you there, and hope you find the meeting fruitful.

Once again, the meeting will be held from 6:00 p.m.— 9:00 p.m. at the Amherst Island Public School

Thank you, and have a good evening.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday November 10th, 2017 - Upcoming CLC meeting: November 30

Hello there,

You may recall, two weeks ago I shared some information about the Amherst Island Wind Project’s Community Liaison Committee.

The second CLC meeting will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, on November 30th, 2017, at Amherst Island Public School (5595 Front Road, Stella).

The purpose of the CLC is to act as a liaison facilitating two-way communications between Windlectric and members of the public with respect to the construction, installation, use, operation, maintenance and retirement of the project.

The CLC meeting is open to the general public for observation. While the agenda is not yet finalized, we anticipate project milestones, activities, community concerns, and issue resolution will be discussed. Once finalized, in the coming weeks, the meeting agenda will be made available on our website.

Friday November 3rd, 2017 - A quick update before the weekend

Hello there,

A quick project update before the weekend.

On October 25th, Lennox & Addington County approved the Road Use Agreement for the Amherst Island Wind Project.

With this Road Use Agreement now in place, we are now preparing to deliver turbine components to the site later this month. The components include three blades, five tower pieces and the nacelle for each turbine.

There are twenty-six towers in total, and when installed they will ultimately be capable of producing 75 Megawatts of power.

With the very wet weather conditions being experienced lately, we would like to remind the community to stay vigilant and drive safe.

Have a good weekend,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday October 27th, 2017 - Get to know your Community Liaison Committee and Working Group

Hello there,

We recently received a question about the various Amherst Island Wind Energy Project community forums.

To strengthen communication between representatives from the local community, other stakeholders, the company and project contractors, Windlectric has established a Community Liaison Committee (CLC) and a Community Working Group (CWG).

As set out in the Renewable Energy Approvals (REA) Process, the purpose of the CLC is to act as a liaison facilitating two-way communications between Windlectric and members of the public with respect to the construction, installation, use, operation, maintenance and retirement of the Amherst Island Wind Project. The CLC will meet a minimum of four times over two years.

Above and beyond what is mandated in the REA, the CWG provides a forum for information exchange beyond the CLC meetings.  Windlectric has voluntarily chosen to hold monthly CWG meetings in the months when the CLC is not meeting. These CWG meetings are a venue for the company to provide responses to questions raised at previous CLC or CWG meetings, or for CWG members to bring forward any questions or concerns relating to the project.

From time to time Windlectric may consider adding additional local residents as representatives to the CWG. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis and any changes to the composition of the CWG are at Windlectric’s sole discretion.

The next CWG meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 31. The next CLC meeting is tentatively scheduled for the last week of November.

Have a good weekend,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday October 21st, 2017 - A quick project update

Hello there,

Just wanted to share a very quick update on recent project activity.

Public road work continues on Second Concession. Silt fencing and environmental controls have been put in place on a number of access roads along Second Concession.

Work on the mainland continues in preparation for submarine cable works and the switchyard. Backfilling for the cabling trench on the mainland site is scheduled to begin shortly.

As work ramps up, local residents expect to see work crews continue to increase in number.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan

Friday October 13th, 2017 - A Quick Project and Safety Update Before the Weekend

Hello there,

Have you seen our weekly Construction Activity Map? The map is intended to ease any inconveniences associated with the project by providing a simple visual description of which roads will be impacted by Project activities. The maps are delivered to all Island residents and are available at the general store, and the Millhaven store.

In terms of project activity,  the access road is now open from Front Road to the Second Concession allowing for the movement of materials, equipment and crews to designated work areas. Preparatory work has begun on Second Concession for pending environmental and civil work at tower locations, as well as for collector line cabling with route assessments.

Lastly, a quick reminder for everyone’s benefit as daylight hours shorten to be alert and mindful of roadside flaggers who are working for everyone’s safety and protection.

Have a good weekend,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday October 6th, 2017 - Stay in the Know

Hello there,

The Amherst Island Wind Energy Project’s Community Working Group (CWG) was created to provide an additional means of two-way communications between representatives from the local community, stakeholders, contractors, and Windlectric. These CWG meetings have proven to be a helpful way to exchange information throughout the project.

At a recent meeting, it was suggested that we take some time to explain all the ways to stay informed about the project. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing this information with all island residents by mail. Please keep an eye out for our letter!

Having signed up for our weekly email update, you likely already know that the easiest way to get project updates is via our website, Facebook page, or by following us on Twitter.

You may also know that we have recently launched a new telephone service where you can hear a daily project update. That toll-free number is 1-844-379-7740.

As the Amherst Island Wind Project construction advances this fall, the project team is committed to ensuring you know how to get timely updates about project construction, road use, and other news.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday September 29th, 2017 - Sounds like a great idea to us!

Hello there,

The results are in… The possibilities considered… We’ve heard your ideas, and now we’ve chosen how to put that community donation to use!

As you’ll recall in July we asked Amherst Islanders to identify possible Island groups or events that could benefit from a $7,500 Windlectric donation.

Many submissions suggested the $7,500 donation go towards the Community Centre on the Island, and we think it’s a winner!

As you know, the Community Centre is used widely by Island residents, for a number of different events and causes. But — as with just about any community centre or hall — the acoustics could be a little better. The problem is, the technology to fix that can be quite expensive.

At the suggestion of the Community Centre, Windlectric has agreed to allocate the funds towards this need. We are happy to contribute the $7500 to the purchase and installation of advanced sound baffling technology.

The new sound baffles will greatly improve acoustics, enhancing the quality of live performances and Amherst Island community events, making it easier for everyone to hear what’s happening on stage.

We look forward to seeing Islanders enjoy the community centre’s improved acoustics, and are glad to help make this longstanding wish a reality!

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday September 22nd, 2017 - What's that on the water?

Hello,

I’ve written to you a couple of times discussing traffic on the Island as a result of Wind Project construction.

Well today I want to discuss a different kind of traffic: Barge traffic on Lake Ontario.

When construction fully ramps up, the barges (there are actually going to be two of them) will be running for the duration of the project working hours, from 7:00am to 8:00pm.

Each barge will make up to six round trips per day. Each trip is approximately 15 minutes, from shore to shore.

The barges will be carrying crews (who will be in a school bus on the barge), as well as equipment, materials, and fuel. In addition, there will also be some smaller crew boats that will be used to transport personnel to the site each day.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday September 15th, 2017 - Recent Construction Work

Hello,

You may have noticed some heightened activity surrounding the Wind Project in recent weeks.

I thought I’d take a moment to provide additional information surrounding these activities.

We are currently hard at work preparing the site in advance of turbine delivery. The initial work is focused on completing the road for the project’s mainland dock and preparing laydown areas on both the mainland and on the island.

The laydown areas are being prepared with careful consideration for the surrounding environment including the installation of erosion controls and regular wildlife sweeps. The island laydown area also includes a project road that will connect Front Road with Second Concession which will minimize traffic near the village of Stella and the Amherst Island Public School.

We are also busy working on the switching station on the mainland, while on the island work will continue at the laydown area, including aggregate deliveries.

To get it all done, Pennecon and their subcontractors have recently on-boarded 38 new employees. By mid-October, that number should be well over 100. It is just a fraction of the approximately 200 jobs that will be created during construction.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday September 8th, 2017 - Introducing Chris Edwards

Hello,

I hope you had a restful Labour Day long weekend.

This week, Loyalist Township hosted a Public Information Session at the Amherst Island Public School. Thank you to those who came out. The meeting was well represented with Island residents!

In other project news, we are excited to announce the addition of Site Manager Chris Edwards to the Amherst Island Wind Project team.

Chris has worked with our Algonquin team on several large wind and solar projects over the years. He has considerable experience having worked on wind projects that now produce three Gigawatts of electricity – enough to power over 900,000 homes. We are very pleased to have Chris’ invaluable insight and experience onboard.

Lastly, with work on the new public recreational road now completed, existing public entrances to the lakeside parkland, south of Bath Road, will be closed. The far west entrance will be permanently closed at the Province’s request, in an effort to improve public safety.

As always, we will keep you updated on our progress.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan

Friday September 1st, 2017 - Happy Labour Day Weekend!

Happy Labour Day weekend everyone!

With construction ramping up, it’s worth taking a moment to think about what’s in store when we cross the finish line, next spring.

Once complete, the Amherst Island Wind Project will produce 75 megawatts of clean energy from 26 turbines. That’s enough to power up to 22,500 homes.

Loyalist Township will benefit from local tax payments and payments outlined in the Community Benefit Agreement. These are funds that benefit the whole community.

At Windlectric we are committed to being upstanding members of the community and making contributions to Amherst Island and Loyalist Township.

As always, if you would like to stay up-to-date with the latest updates on the project’s construction, please see our website (www.amherstislandwindproject.com), Facebook or by following us on Twitter.

We would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Labour Day!

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan

Friday August 25th, 2017 - New ways to stay informed

Hello there,

Can you believe summer is almost over? Labour day is around the corner and I hope everyone has enjoyed the warm weather.

Beginning in September construction of the wind project will ramp up and we’ve gone to great lengths to minimize the level of disruption, disturbance and inconvenience to Island residents. Communication is key. As always, you can receive project news and updates on our websiteTwitter feed, and Facebook page..

Beginning September 1, you can receive a daily (Monday – Friday) update on traffic interruptions and road closures by dialing 1-844-379-7740.

During construction, you can receive daily traffic updates for both the mainland and the island and other important news. The line will be staffed during business hours if you wish to speak to or leave a message for a Wind Project team member who can answer general questions and provide updates on current activities.

It’s just another way to ensure you have the information you need, when you need it.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday August 18th, 2017 - The results are in...

Hello there,

You might recall in July we asked Amherst Islanders to identify possible Island groups or events that could benefit from a $7,500 Windlectric donation.

Last night, the suggestions were reviewed at our Community Working Group (CWG) meeting. We are happy to say that we heard Amherst Island residents’ wishes loud and clear, and now the results are in!

Many submissions suggested the $7,500 donation go towards the Community Centre. As you know, the Community Centre is used widely by residents, for a number of different events and causes. As recipients go, the Community Centre touches many people in different ways. After review and as recommended by the CWG members, Windlectric is pleased to make this contribution towards the Community Centre.

In the weeks ahead, we will work with the Community Centre to determine the best use for this donation. Stay tuned! We will update you as we know more.

Our Wind Project team hopes that this additional donation will support vibrant community life on Amherst Island.  Thank you to everyone who submitted an idea.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday August 11th, 2017 - Loyalist Township approves Operations Plan

Hello,

After many months of extensive public consultation and working diligently with Loyalist Township staff, the Amherst Island Wind Project’s Operations Plan was approved by Loyalist Township council, earlier this week.

This decision is a meaningful milestone for the Wind Project, and for the community. We believe it was a pragmatic decision made with full consideration of our careful planning and respect for the community’s safety.

Summer may be in full swing, but work continues. As I mentioned last week, construction of the new public access road continues and should soon be open to the public, providing access to the parkland at the lakeside for your enjoyment.

Going forward, you can expect to see more activity as we upgrade the access road from the highway to accommodate construction traffic. Additionally, over the next month, we will continue construction of a temporary dock on the mainland to limit interruption to residents’ ferry access.

In the coming days, archaeologists will be on the island to finish off archaeology work, which is considered pre-construction activity. The public ferry will be used by archaeology staff, as has been previously agreed with authorities.

Next week we are also anticipating survey work to occur on the lake in the north channel along the proposed submarine cable route. This survey work will include divers, and appropriate communication and planning has been coordinate with the public ferry operators. The work is expected to last one week, is weather dependent, and will not be affecting the ferry schedule.

As always, we will keep you updated on our progress on our websiteTwitter feed, and Facebook page.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday August 3rd, 2017 - Access Road Work Update

Hi folks,

We have some exciting news to share with you this week.

If you’ve been in the neighbourhood of the Invista property south of Bath Road you may well have wondered what all the activity has been about.

Well, for a number of weeks, crews have been on-site conducting archaeological work in preparation of a new public access road. This recreational road is not part of the wind project, but is being built at the request of Loyalist Township at no cost to the community.

As of Wednesday, that archaeological clearance work is complete and construction of the roadway is underway.

Once complete, the road will provide access to the parkland at the lakeside for your enjoyment.

We expect the work to be completed by the end of next week. Following completion of the new park access road, we will be closing the existing public entrances as we upgrade the access road from the highway to accommodate construction traffic. Also, I should note that the far west entrance will be permanently closed at MTO’s request, in an effort to improve public safety.

As always, we will keep you updated on our progress.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Saturday July 15th, 2017 - Have your Say

Hello there,

A couple of weeks ago, I emailed to ask if you knew of an Island group or event looking for a sponsor.

This is just a quick follow up note to let you know that we are still looking for ideas for a $7,500 donation to the residents of Amherst Island.

On the advice of the Community Working Group (CWG) we’re giving Island residents the opportunity to provide input as to how the money should be spent. After all, at the end of the day it should benefit the Amherst Island community, directly.

So if you can think of a worthy cause — an area sports team, a local recreational club in need of new equipment, a charitable cause that everyone can rally behind – please let us know your idea.

Have your say: How should that $7,500 be put to use?

To make your idea known, please send your suggestions to windlectric@amherstislandwindproject.com. Please reference “Community Donation” in the subject line of the email.

Please note that entries are accepted until the end of July. All suggestions will be discussed at a future CWG meeting, with a recipient announced in August.

I will also be sending an email next week explaining where you will be able to find a special drop-box if you would prefer to submit your recommendations by letter.

Our Wind Project team hopes that this additional donation will be useful to supporting a vibrant community life.  Thank you again for your continued patience and consideration.

Friday July 7th, 2017 - A Summer Update

Hello,
After a rainy start, it finally feels like summer on Amherst Island!
Now that school’s out and the glorious July weather is here, I wanted to take a moment to send a quick note with an update on the Wind Project construction, and to share a brief safety message.
First, if you have passed by the Invista property on the mainland this week, you may have noticed a fair bit of activity. Currently there are crews on the west side of the site conducting archaeology work before a new public access road is built for the public to enjoy the lakeside.
Slightly to the east of that, there is also some in-water work beginning now. This will continue for several months as we move towards completion of the mainland dock in preparation for fall construction activity on Amherst Island.
Finally, a quick a safety reminder. Now that school is out, my Windlectric colleagues and I want to ask everyone to be extra aware when driving this summer to watch for children who may be playing and riding their bikes on or near local roadways.
I hope you enjoy your weekend, and that you are making the best of the summer weather.
Sincerely,
Tim Sullivan

Friday June 30th, 2017 - An Update on Windlectric's $7500 Community Donation

Hello there,

Do you know of an Island group or event looking for a sponsor? What about an area sports team or local recreational club in need of new equipment? Maybe there is a charitable cause that everyone can rally behind?

We’re asking for your suggestions. No idea is too big or too small.

As you may recall, a power outage occurred on the morning of January 21. In recognition of our role in that disruption, Windlectric committed to making a $7,500 donation to the residents of Amherst Island, and we are making good on that promise.

The Community Working Group (CWG) has suggested that Island residents have the opportunity to provide input as to how the money should be spent. After all, at the end of the day it should benefit the Amherst Island community, directly.

So we’re asking for your input: How should $7,500 be put to use?

To make your idea known, please send your suggestions to windlectric@amherstislandwindproject.com  by July 20, 2017 referencing “Community Donation” in the subject line of the email.

All suggestions will be discussed at a future CWG meeting, with a recipient announced by July 28, 2017.

Our Wind Project team strives to be good neighbours, and we hope that this additional donation will be useful to supporting a vibrant community life.

Thank you again for your continued patience and consideration.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday June 23rd, 2017 - Accommodations for Project Workers

Hello,

As the Amherst Island Wind Project moves forward with construction, it will create a number of good, sustainable employment opportunities in the local community. In fact, the project is expected to generate about 200 construction-related jobs, and approximately 10 permanent positions.

In addition to local workers hired for the project, there will also be a small number of workers from out of town. Most of these workers will be on site for about one year, and some will require local accommodations while they are working on the project.

To assist our workers and partners, Windlectric is compiling a list of residents willing to offer accommodations in the form of rental rooms or houses.

If any landowners are interested in housing workers during this time, please respond to this email with your name and contact information. We will pass it along to our affiliated construction partners, who will contact you to make the necessary arrangements if there is demand.

Sincerely,

Tim Sullivan
Local Development Manager

Friday June 16th, 2017 - Helping to Start New Careers

Hello,

I have some exciting news to share.

Windlectric has worked with St. Lawrence College to provide a new bursary to assist incoming or returning students with financial need to attend St. Lawrence College in Kingston. The bursary will provide a minimum of $500 per year, with a preference to students enrolled in the Wind Turbine Technician program, or students from Amherst Island.

Since 2007, St. Lawrence College has been providing students in the program an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the electrical and mechanical aspects of wind turbines. There are currently 40 students enrolled in the program.

With the growing demand for wind energy across Canada, graduates are in high demand. In fact, graduates of the program have an employment rate of close to 100 percent. Upon completing the two-year diploma program, students receive something called a “BZEE” certification. BZEE is the leading global certification for wind turbine technicians.

Friday June 9th, 2017 - An Update on the Mainland Dock

Hello,

I wanted to send you an update about the mainland dock in Loyalist Township. Construction work will soon start in that area, and it will cause some changes to access routes and signage.

So you’re up to date:

  • In the next week, we will be fencing off the mainland dock construction area for work. We will be installing protective silt fences along the shoreline at the dock area. Starting around June 15th, we will start installing sand bags and a “turbidity curtain” (which is a device to control the spread of silt and sediment from stirred-up water) to separate the dock work area from the lake waters. To be clear, this approach has been reviewed by relevant authorities and is in line with permits.
  • Once those sediment controls are in place, we will begin excavating the shoreline for the dock abutment, which is a vertical wall at the landward end of the dock. Just a reminder that this work will require dump trucks to be entering and exiting the dock site.
  • Once the Township grants a fill permit, we will construct a Recreation Road to provide public access to the parkland, at which point we plan to close existing entrances.

Over the next few weeks, you can expect to see equipment and materials start to arrive on site for the mainland dock construction. For more information, you can read the engineering documentation for all proposed construction work in our Operations Plan for the Wind Project.

If you have any further questions you may submit them to us by email windlectric@amherstislandwindproject.com or contact me directly at 416-605-3070.

Friday June 2nd, 2017 - Operations Plan Update

Hello,

As you may know, we have been working with Loyalist Township over the past several months to draft and finalize an Operations Plan for the Amherst Island Wind Project. The purpose of the Operations Plan is to demonstrate how prudent and reasonable practices will be utilized to minimize the level of disruption, disturbance and inconvenience to the Township’s residents associated with the construction of the Amherst Island Wind Project. The Operations Plan was prepared and submitted to the Township in accordance with the provisions of the Road Use Agreement made between Windlectric Inc. and the Corporation of Loyalist Township on January 26, 2016.

On Monday night, the Loyalist Township Council held a Special Council Meeting to vote on the Operations Plan created for the Project. Unfortunately, Council did not approve the current Operations Plan at their meeting. While this is not the outcome we hoped for, we intend to use the processes outlined in the Road Use Agreement with Loyalist Township to move the project along.

To be clear, this does not mean that the Amherst Island Wind Project is cancelled. Work on the mainland continues and we are planning to resume construction on the dock in July. The Road Use Agreement contains an arbitration process to resolve disputes regarding the Operations Plan. As we have made considerable efforts to incorporate feedback from residents, township staff, and experts, we remain confident that the Plan is an effective guide for the safe and careful construction of the project.

For more information, you can read our May 29 letter to Township Council (PDF link), where we indicated our intention to move into arbitration if Council did not  approve the Plan. After Council did not approve the Plan on May 29th, we served the Township with a formal Notice to Arbitrate on May 31st.

We look forward to continuing to work with the community to make this project and its benefits to Amherst Island a reality.

As always, you can read the Operations Plan on our website, and you can also submit questions and comments to windlectric@amherstislandwindproject.comor directly to myself at 416-605-3070.
